The Utah Mammoth bolstered their crease Friday, adding netminder Sebastian Cossa from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for the No. 23 pick, commissioner Gary Bettman announced at the 2026 NHL Draft.

The Red Wings used the selection on Kamloops Blazers forward J.P. Hurlbert. The Allen, Texas, native produced 97 points in 68 games last season and is committed to play at Michigan for the 2026-27 season.

Cossa, the No. 15 pick in 2021, has appeared in only one NHL game in his career. However, the 23-year-old has been stellar in the AHL, posting a .911 save percentage in 123 appearances across four seasons.

The 6-foot-6 netminder is no longer waiver exempt, so he projects to serve as Karel Vejmelka's backup next season. Cossa is in need of a new contract as a pending restricted free agent.

The No. 23 pick originally belonged to the Boston Bruins, who traded it to Utah in Friday's JJ Peterka swap.
