Atlanta Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that quarterback Michael Penix Jr. should start Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears "as long as everything goes accordingly," according to team reporter Tori McElhaney.
Penix suffered a rib injury late in Atlanta's Week 5 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and had to exit the game.
If Penix can't play versus Chicago, Tua Tagovailoa would be expected to start in his place.
The Falcons are 2-1 with Penix as their starting quarterback this year. He missed the first two games of the season - both of which resulted in losses - while recovering from an ACL procedure that he underwent last November.
Penix has completed 67.5% of his passes this season for 719 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Atlanta has averaged 34.3 points per game with Penix under center.
Meanwhile, the Bears may also see their starting quarterback return from injury this week. Caleb Williams, who's been sidelined the last three games with a hamstring injury, is slated to practice in full Wednesday.
