Boston Red Sox slugger Roman Anthony's status for Game 2 of the AL wild-card series against the New York Yankees is in question following an injury in Tuesday's Game 1 loss.
Anthony, the Red Sox designated hitter in Game 1, was removed for pinch-hitter Andruw Monasterio in the sixth inning of Boston's 9-0 loss because of an issue with his right hand. A right wrist sprain sustained in May limited him to 55 regular-season games.
"He took a check-swing and then another swing, and his hand flared on him, and it got uncomfortable, so we had to make a move there," manager Chad Tracy said postgame, according to MLB Network.
Tracy added that he's still unsure if imaging will be needed and didn't confirm whether Anthony will play Wednesday.
"We'll have to see what tomorrow brings," the skipper said, according to Tim Healey of the Boston Globe.

Anthony struck out in both of his at-bats before being lifted.
The 22-year-old, who finished third in AL Rookie of the Year voting last year, hit .245/.339/.396 with five homers and 15 RBIs during his abbreviated 2026 season.
If Anthony needed to be removed from Boston's roster because of an injury, he would then be forced to miss the following series should the team advance.
