Jordan Spieth will be heading home early from the Open Championship for the first time in his storied career.

Spieth entered the week a perfect 12-for-12 in cuts made at The Open but ended up well back of the 1-over cut line at Royal Birkdale following rounds of 73 and 77 on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Perhaps most surprising about Spieth's latest performance is that his lone Open Championship victory came at Royal Birkdale in 2017.

While Spieth is the headliner, there are plenty of other notable names who also missed the cut. Matt Fitzpatrick entered as one of the pretournament favorites on account of his brilliant season. However, he struggled to a 72 both days and won't see the weekend as a result. His younger brother, Alex, meanwhile, is in excellent shape at 4-under for the championship.

Others who didn't make the cut include the last two major winners - Aaron Rai and Wyndham Clark - as well as Viktor Hovland, Joaquin Niemann, and Justin Rose.
