Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons said Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels may have gotten his head coach fired after Washington let time expire in overtime during Sunday's tie with the New York Giants.
"Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job," Parsons said on "The Edge with Micah Parsons" podcast. "I'm a big Jayden Daniels fan, but the reality is he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend."
After getting the ball back in overtime, the Commanders moved down the field and were in range for a potential 41-yard game-winning field goal. The team elected to run another play with 12 seconds remaining and Daniels was tackled for no gain, which kept the clock running. Washington had no timeouts and was unable to spike the ball before time expired, ending the game in a tie.
Parsons dismissed the idea that Washington's coaching staff deserved a share of the blame. Quinn, now head coach of the Commanders, was Parsons' defensive coordinator from 2021-23 when they were both with the Dallas Cowboys.
"We get coached so much on these situations that - I'm a defensive player and this shit is programmed to me," Parsons said. "I know what to do in those situations. There's no way I'm taking a sack with 14 seconds left and no timeouts. ...
"It'd be different if Jayden Daniels was a rookie. This is your third year. ... You'd been to the NFC Championship Game, you've been in big moments before - and to me, even after the sack, you're casually getting up."
Parsons noted that teams discuss situational football "every day" leading up to a game.
Washington reportedly doesn't plan to fire Quinn or make any coaching changes following the gaffe.
The Commanders sit in the basement of the NFC East with a 1-3-1 record.
