Nikola Jokic is happy where he is.

While speaking to reporters in Serbia on Monday, the Denver Nuggets star and three-time MVP reaffirmed his commitment to the franchise by confirming that he intends to sign a new deal in 2027, courtesy of The Athletic's Sam Amick.

"My idea is to sign next summer and stay with Denver for the rest of my career," Jokić said following Serbia's FIBA World Cup qualifier win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to a translation provided to Amick by a team source.

Jokic is eligible to sign a four-year extension until the end of the 2026-27 season, but the max amount would be capped at approximately $278 million.

By waiting until summer 2027, he can re-sign with the Nuggets on a new five-year max deal worth approximately $360 million that could also contain a no-trade clause. That potential pact would run into Jokic's late-30s, which is a significant factor in his decision to push back negotiations, sources told Amick.

Following Denver's first-round postseason exit against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jokic said he felt the Nuggets were "far away" from contending for a championship but didn't waver in his commitment to the franchise.

"I still want to be Nuggets forever," the center said May 1.

Jokic, who put up a triple-double of 20 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds in Serbia's win Monday, averaged a triple-double for the second straight NBA season in 2025-26 (27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.7 assists in 65 starts). However, he finished as the MVP runner-up to Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the second consecutive year.
