The Seattle Mariners will need a new manager in 2027 after they announced following Sunday's game that Dan Wilson won't return next season.
"Collectively, we failed to meet our own expectations this season," president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said. "Dan and I both care deeply about this organization, these players, and the future of the Mariners. After much discussion, it was concluded that a new direction is best for 2027 and beyond."
Other members of Wilson's coaching staff are also expected to part ways with the team, sources told MLB.com's Daniel Kramer.
Wilson took over as the Mariners' manager in August 2024 after the club fired Scott Servais. He led them to the Game 7 of the ALCS last season - the furthest the franchise has ever advanced in the playoffs - before being named a finalist for 2025 AL Manager of the Year. But the club took a major step back this year and ultimately missed the playoffs while finishing 10 games below .500.
The 57-year-old Wilson, a member of the Mariners Hall of Fame based on his playing career, posted a 186-171 record as Seattle's skipper.
"I'm still processing this with my family and it's a very difficult day," Wilson said, according to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times. "We love this city, we love this community, and we appreciate the organization for what it's meant to (our) family since coming here as a player in 1994. We feel extremely blessed by all the opportunities we've been afforded. We raised our family here, and we will continue to call Seattle home."
Dipoto and general manager Justin Hollander are expected to return next season.
