The New York Yankees are placing second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right thumb, manager Aaron Boone announced Wednesday, per SNY.
Chisholm will be shut down from baseball activities for the next 7-10 days, Boone added. He did not offer a firm timeline beyond that.
The Yankees are recalling infielder Anthony Volpe from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move, YES Network's Jack Curry reports. Volpe was scheduled to play shortstop for Scranton on Wednesday but has since been scratched, according to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News.
However, the Yankees won't make the roster move official until Volpe arrives in New York on Thursday, per Curry. Chisholm will stay on the active roster for Wednesday's game but will apparently only be available as a pinch-runner.
Chisholm suffered the injury when he jammed his thumb into second base on an attempted steal in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. He came out on defense to start the following inning but was replaced after the first out in the top of the ninth.

The 28-year-old is hitting .232/.312/.403 with 19 homers, 55 RBIs, and an AL-best 40 stolen bases in 134 games this season.
Volpe, a former Gold Glove shortstop, was optioned to Triple-A in August after struggling to a .646 OPS with one homer in 194 big-league plate appearances this year. The 25-year-old has turned things around in the minors, though, hitting .292/.390/.660 with 10 homers and 21 RBIs since the demotion.
Volpe has never played second in the majors but has made 19 appearances at the position in Triple-A this year.
José Caballero, who replaced Chisholm late in Tuesday's game, took his spot in the lineup at second base on Wednesday.
