The Kansas City Royals placed star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. on the 10-day injured list due to low back tightness, the team announced Wednesday.

Witt was removed from Monday's game due to the issue. He missed time with a knee injury earlier this season.

The 26-year-old is hitting .279/.350/.450 with 13 home runs, 39 RBIs, and an American League-leading 30 stolen bases in 94 games this season.

Witt finished fourth in AL MVP voting in 2025 and as the runner-up in 2024.

The Royals recalled infielder Andrew Velazquez from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
