Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Shohei Ohtani won't make his scheduled start on the mound Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies due to lingering left knee irritation, according to ESPN's Jorge Castillo.
Roberts had said Friday that Ohtani was on track to make his scheduled pitching appearance in what would've been his first start since July 3. Ohtani had an injection in his knee July 12 and skipped the All-Star Game.
Roberts isn't sure when Ohtani, who's still suiting up as a designated hitter, might return to the mound.
"Kind of where we're at, right now, how we're proceeding, I would say that it's going to be some time," Roberts said. "And I say that it's not going to be a day-to-day thing."
Roberts added, "I just think for us, it's more what we've done many times over, erring on the side of caution."
Ohtani is 8-2 across 14 starts this season with a 1.79 ERA and 10 K/9. At the plate, the four-time MVP has smashed 22 home runs with a slash line of .289/.400/.543.
