It's another milestone for Lionel Messi.

The Argentina icon came off the bench in Saturday's group game against Jordan and promptly scored a free-kick that made him the first man to find the net in seven consecutive World Cup matches.

Messi, who turned 39 earlier this week, now has six goals in three appearances at this summer's tournament, and extended his all-time World Cup record to 19 tallies.

Messi's latest marker helped Argentina earn a 3-1 victory over Jordan. He now has 123 international goals - trailing only Cristiano Ronaldo's 145 - in 202 international appearances.

He'll look to continue his scoring streak when the Albiceleste take on tournament darling Cape Verde in the round of 32.

"I am very happy for (Messi), for the moment he is having," said Giovani Lo Celso, who scored a free-kick of his own early in the match to become the first Argentina player other than Messi to register a goal in the tournament.

"The truth is that seeing him every day excites. (It) excites and infects a lot. So obviously seeing him like that for us is very important."
