Moise Bombito will remain in Canada's World Cup squad despite limping off in his comeback at the start of June following a six-month layoff.
"I don't see any reason why, a week from now, that he's not ready to even be considered a starter," Canada head coach Jesse Marsch said Thursday, according to OneSoccer.
Marsch added that Bombito could be available off the bench for Canada's World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, TSN's Matthew Scianitti reports. Canada follows that game with Group B matches against Qatar (June 18) and Switzerland (June 24).
Bombito was in a race to prove his fitness for the World Cup following surgery on a broken leg last October. The Nice center-back finally returned to the pitch for Canada's friendly win over Uzbekistan on June 1 but was forced off after 31 minutes. He was then expected to be ruled out of the World Cup after playing 30 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against USL League Two side Vermont Green FC.
However, Bombito has remained part of Marsch's 26-man roster, meaning the Vancouver Whitecaps' Ralph Priso has missed out on representing his country at the World Cup.
Alphonso Davies will not face Bosnia as he tries to overcome a hamstring injury. Marsch claims the Canada captain has "almost completely" healed, according to TSN's Claire Hanna.
Canada can no longer make any changes to its World Cup roster.
