Death, taxes, and Justin Thomas winning points at the Presidents Cup.
The American star once again dominated a four-ball session at the event Thursday, partnering with rookie Jackson Koivun to beat Corey Conners and Nico Echevarria 4&3 to grab the first point of the day at Medinah Country Club outside of Chicago.
Thomas carried the load early for the hosts, allowing Koivun, the youngest player in the field, to ease into the pressure cooker that is international team competition. Thomas supplied the duo's score on four of the opening five holes as it built a quick 2-up lead.
Thomas and Koivun played well, but the result was as much about the Americans winning as it was the International team losing. Conners and Echevarria made just three combined birdies in the match and never seemed to be a threat. Neither player ranks in the top 100 on the PGA TOUR in birdie average, a stat that's usually a strong indicator of play in four-ball format.
Conners is now a dismal 2-8-0 in his Presidents Cup career.
