The New Jersey Devils are gauging interest around the league in veteran goaltender Jacob Markstrom, sources told ESPN's Kevin Weekes.
Markstrom, 36, is under contract for two more seasons at a $6-million cap hit. He signed the extension last October under former general manager Tom Fitzgerald.
The Devils acquired Markstrom from the Calgary Flames in the 2024 offseason. In his first year in New Jersey, he posted a .900 save percentage and helped the club qualify for the playoffs. However, his performance dipped this past season, as he recorded a .883 clip across 44 appearances.
Veteran backup Jake Allen posted a .903 save percentage in 37 games in 2025-26 as the Devils finished seventh in the Metropolitan Division. He's under contract through 2030.
New Jersey is hoping to rebound under new general manager Sunny Mehta, who helped the Florida Panthers win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2024 and 2025. He has approximately $10.9 million in cap space to work with in his first summer in charge, per PuckPedia.
