Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson announced Monday that Tyson Bagent will start at quarterback in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers, according to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain.
"Tyson will be the guy," Johnson told ESPN 1000 Chicago's Jeff Joniak. "We'll go from there. We're in good shape."
Starter Caleb Williams is expected to miss another week due to a hamstring injury.
Case Keenum and Bagent both took the field for the first play of Sunday's 23-12 win over the New York Jets. Keenum left the field after the play, while Bagent proceeded to guide the offense on a 14-play drive.
"Well, I got all these memos saying that Tyson was starting before I ever made an announcement, so I wanted to get Case out there," Johnson told reporters postgame, including ESPN's Courtney Cronin.
Bagent said Keenum informed him earlier in the week that he'd start against New York, per Cronin. There had been speculation that the 38-year-old passer could get the starting nod after leading the Bears to an impressive victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.
The 26-year-old Bagent completed 25 of 34 passes for 268 yards and an interception in his first start of the season Sunday.
