Every Sunday, we cut through the noise to spotlight the NFL's most important developments and break down why they matter moving forward.

Walker slams door on Raiders
At halftime, Raiders' first-year head coach Klint Kubiak told CBS Sports' Tracy Wolfson that his team was "gonna win the game." They did not.
While Las Vegas continued to show that its hot start to the season isn't fluky, stopping the Chiefs was too much to ask of the Raiders' defense. Particularly, Kenneth Walker was the nightmare who handed Kubiak his first loss.
After finishing the first half with 62 rushing yards, Walker broke loose for another 115 yards and two touchdowns on only 10 carries in the second half. The Chiefs have been explosive for years in the pass game, but the addition of a home-run threat in the backfield has Kansas City 4-0 and looking like a Super Bowl contender once again.
Chargers finally found rhythm, but too late
It was a familiar story for the Chargers on Sunday when they started their matchup against the Seahawks with two turnovers in the first five minutes. One more interception just before halftime set up Seattle to extend its lead to 17. As usual, the Chargers buried themselves with mistakes and miscues.
But the second half was a different story. While the Seahawks' lead ultimately became insurmountable, the Chargers put together 81- and 85-yard touchdown drives followed by a 74-yard drive that ended in a field goal.
Los Angeles got the ball back in the final two minutes with a chance to pull off a dramatic comeback, but it was spoiled by a Uchenna Nwosu strip sack that put the game on ice.
Was the second half a turning point for the Chargers' offense? And does it even matter with the team now 0-4 and buried in the tough AFC West?
Brock Purdy remains unsackable
The 49ers may be the NFL's most impressive squad through four games, and Purdy is emerging as an early MVP candidate. Somehow, he still hasn't been sacked this season.
That's especially wild after a 24-14 win against the Broncos. Last season, Denver led the league in sacks and came just a few short of claiming the single-season record. Getting Purdy on the ground proved too tall of a task, though.
Vikings survive another poor offensive showing
Minnesota got a win without scoring a touchdown for the second time this season. They first pulled off that dubious feat against the Bears and did it again Sunday against the Dolphins. To be fair, Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson passed up a walk-in touchdown in the final minutes to milk the remaining clock. Still, the 15-10 win against arguably the NFL's worst team was a little too close for comfort.
Thanks to the Vikings' scary defense, it hasn't mattered, and the team is 4-0. But Kyler Murray and Co. are going to need to be better in the red zone if they hope to keep getting wins during tougher stretches in the schedule.
Early slate
Lamb's all-time performance sinks Texans
C.J. Stroud put up huge numbers for the Texans' offense, but it wasn't enough when the Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb had one of the best games for a receiver in recent years. His 17 receptions were the most any player has recorded in a game in the last three seasons and the seventh-most ever in a game. He turned those catches into 189 yards, including a 12-yard go-ahead touchdown in the final minute of the game to help Dallas claim a 34-30 win.
The Cowboys' defense remains an issue, but Dak Prescott, Lamb, and George Pickens are more than capable of forcing any team into a shootout and coming out on top.
Defense dragged Rams' offense to victory
The reigning NFL MVP hasn't looked that valuable so far in 2026. After throwing only eight interceptions last season, Matthew Stafford already has six this year, and he hasn't finished a game without one. The Eagles turned Stafford's two picks into 10 points Sunday.
It would've been too much to overcome if not for a stellar day by the Rams' defense, which stopped the Eagles on all 12 of their third-down attempts. Los Angeles also allowed only one of Philadelphia's four tries on fourth down. Eventually, those additional opportunities for L.A.'s offense turned into a pair of Kyren Williams touchdowns in the last four minutes of the game, as Sean McVay and Co. stole a big win in Philadelphia to avoid a 1-3 start.
Drake Maye bounces back to stun the Bills
The regression of the 2025 MVP runner-up has been one of the season's most surprising narratives through three weeks, but Maye looked more like his former self against Buffalo.
It wasn't a perfect day. Maye had another ball slip through his fingers in the pocket and threw an interception, although the latter turnover was clearly on receiver Romeo Doubs, who juggled the ball straight into the arms of the Bills' Dee Alford.
The good moments overshadowed those, though. Maye threw three touchdowns, including a 23-yard game-winner to Efton Chism III with less than two minutes left. On top of his 269 passing yards, Maye was also the Patriots' leading rusher with 54 yards.
The upset win in Buffalo got the Patriots right back in the AFC East race, but the resurgence of Maye is even more important for New England in the long run.
Jaguars and Bengals had highlight reel's worth of nullified plays
It was one of only a handful of games between teams with winning records, but the big cat duel of AFC contenders in Cincinnati turned out to be a penalty-fest most of the day.
Three touchdowns (two for the Jaguars and one for the Bengals) were nullified by penalties, as was an entertaining Travis Hunter interception that included a juke move that sent Tee Higgins flying in the wrong direction. The most unfortunate result of the sloppy afternoon was a facemask penalty on a tackle of Ja’Marr Chase that resulted in the Bengals receiver suffering a concussion.
By the final whistle, the Jaguars and Bengals combined for 24 accepted penalties with more than 100 yards of penalty yardage each.
3 quarterbacks, 3 wins for Bears
It looked like Chicago was in serious trouble when the team couldn't score a touchdown against the Vikings in Week 2 and lost Caleb Williams to a hamstring injury that day. But after turning to Case Keenum in Week 3 and Tyson Bagent in Week 4, Ben Johnson's Bears are 3-1 and back on track.
Chicago's defense suffocated the Jets after doing the same to the Eagles last week. And even if it hasn't been the 59-point avalanche the Bears' offense hung on the Panthers in Week 1, that unit has also been getting the job done, regardless of the quarterback situation. Kyle Monangai led the way Sunday with 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns, helping Chicago finish with more than 42 minutes of ball possession.
The Jets finally got an interception
For the first time since the last week of the 2024 season, the Jets intercepted a pass. That 20-game drought almost ended in a much more hilarious fashion when 366-pound defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat picked off Bears' backup quarterback Tyson Bagent earlier in the day, but a penalty nullified that play. Alas, Minkah Fitzpatrick got the streak-ending interception a quarter later.
It didn't come close to mattering, though. While the Bears turned the ball over twice and were stuffed on the goal line, the Jets' offense never got going until it was way too late, and Chicago managed to rack up 492 yards.
Jalon Daniels close to delivering feel-good story of the day
Starting an undrafted rookie in Week 4 is a disaster scenario, but it came surprisingly close to becoming a victory for the Buccaneers. Daniels, who was thrust into starting duties due to a Baker Mayfield injury, kept Tampa Bay in it all the way to the final minute.
Daniels had his rookie moments, finishing with a pair of interceptions. But he also threw for a touchdown and picked up 55 yards as a rusher. It'll be hard for the 0-4 Buccaneers to find wins without Mayfield in the lineup, but Daniels showed he can keep the team competitive.
Winston vs. Brissett was the day's fun - and silly - chaos
Jameis Winston and Jacoby Brissett have spent most of the last decade as journeyman quarterbacks who have occasionally held down starting jobs, but not for long. Their Sunday duel showed exactly why.
That duo combined for five touchdowns and five interceptions in a wild, back-and-forth battle that came down to the final play. With the Cardinals just 4 yards away from a game-winning touchdown, Brissett fittingly threw a pick to the Giants' Deonte Banks, who returned it 98 yards for a touchdown with zero on the clock.
It wasn't a day of crisp football at MetLife Stadium, but the entertainment value was through the roof.
