The New Orleans Saints and running back Alvin Kamara agreed on a structured deal that will keep him with the team through the 2026 season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The contract will pay Kamara a base salary of $6 million, with the potential to earn $8.5 million through incentives, Rapoport adds.
Kamara, who turns 31 in late July, has been with the Saints for his entire nine-year career. His potential departure became a talking point during OTAs due to his previous $10.4-million cap hit, the third-highest on the roster, according to Over The Cap.
The veteran signed a two-year, $24-million extension in 2024, and he'll now be scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2027. New Orleans made a significant addition to its running back room this offseason by signing Travis Etienne to a four-year, $52-million deal during free agency.
"I don't want to go anywhere, and I've said it countless times," Kamara said in October ahead of the 2025 trade deadline. "If I was a GM, I guess I would go to the player and say, 'Hey, we're trading you, just so you know.' So if (general manager) Mickey (Loomis) comes down and says that, I'm going to go drink a piña colada somewhere."
Kamara posted a career low in rushing yards (471) and yards from scrimmage (657) last season. He also averaged just 3.6 yards per carry, while the Saints' offense finished 31st in EPA per play on designed runs, per TruMedia.
New Orleans drafted Kamara in the third round in 2017. The five-time Pro Bowler's 12,198 scrimmage yards over the last nine seasons rank behind only Derrick Henry and Christian McCaffrey.
