The Denver Broncos signed head coach Sean Payton to a new five-year contract, the team announced Thursday.

Payton and general manager George Paton are now both under contract through the 2030 season.

"Sean Payton has led an impressive turnaround over the past three seasons, instilling a winning culture with high expectations," Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner said in a statement. "I appreciate the close partnership he shares with George Paton, along with the alignment and stability across our football operations."

Denver traded first- and second-round selections to the New Orleans Saints to acquire the rights to hire Payton in 2023, as he remained under contract with the club after stepping down as head coach in 2021.

The 62-year-old has posted a 32-19 record in three seasons with the Broncos, winning eight games in his first campaign and recording double-digit victories in each of the last two years.

Denver won 14 contests in 2025, tying the franchise record for the most victories in a single season. However, the team fell short in the AFC Championship Game to the New England Patriots after quarterback Bo Nix was sidelined for the rest of the playoffs following an ankle injury suffered in the divisional round.

Payton won a Super Bowl with the Saints during the 2009 season, and his 194 overall wins rank 12th on the NFL's all-time list.
