Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor will miss the rest of the 2026 season due to a toe injury that requires surgery, the school announced Tuesday.
Taylor is expected to make a full recovery. He has an appointment Tuesday with a toe specialist and his surgery could take place as soon as Wednesday, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
The sophomore signal-caller suffered the injury Sept. 26 against Missouri. He tried to play through it the following week versus Alabama but was sidelined Oct. 17 against LSU. He suited up Saturday against Oklahoma and was forced out of the contest after aggravating the injury in the first quarter.
Taylor led the Bulldogs to a 4-0 start, including wins over South Carolina, Missouri, and Minnesota. He was considered a Heisman candidate through the first month of the season.
The 19-year-old finishes his campaign having completed 65.4% of his throws for 1,460 yards with 17 touchdown passes and four interceptions. In August and September, Taylor ranked sixth in the country among all quarterbacks in passer efficiency rating (187.8), according to TruMedia. He's projected to be one of the first quarterbacks selected in the 2028 NFL Draft.
Mississippi State is 4-3 after losing three straight games. Freshman Parker Puckett filled in for Taylor over the last three contests.
