BYU followed up one of its biggest wins in recent history with one of its most dramatic losses, as the No. 2 Cougars fell 39-31 in double overtime to unranked UCF on Saturday in Orlando.
The Cougars flirted with disaster twice in the dying minutes of regulation, first stopping UCF on a goal-line stand and then blocking a potential game-winning kick to force the extra frame.
After the teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, UCF received a gift in the second session when a roughing-the-kicker penalty gave the Knights a fresh set of downs. The Knights then punched in a touchdown and a two-point conversion to put pressure on BYU once again.

The Cougars couldn't match the touchdown, as UCF's defense stood tall to secure the first win over a top-five team in program history.

BYU's loss leaves Miami, Utah, and UCLA as the only undefeated teams left in FBS. The result also makes the Cougars the seventh top-10 team to lose in the last two weeks.
The Cougars' defeat, combined with No. 8 Texas Tech's loss to unranked Cincinnati earlier Saturday, opens the door for Utah to gain sole possession of first place in the Big 12 should it beat Houston late Saturday night.
