Gable Steveson doesn't want to waste any time in climbing to the top of the mountain in the UFC.

Steveson said Friday he hopes to fight for the heavyweight title "as fast as possible."

"But I would like to get my reps in, make sure the people know I earned my respect and earned my time in the Octagon," Steveson told reporters, according to MMA Fighting. "When that time comes, I'll most definitely be ready."

Steveson, a former Olympic gold medalist and one of the most accomplished collegiate wrestlers of all time, made his highly anticipated Octagon debut at UFC 329 in July, knocking out Elisha Ellison in the first round.

The 26-year-old is scheduled to face Sean Sharaf in his sophomore appearance at UFC 331 on Sept. 19 in Los Angeles.

Steveson, who trains under UFC legend Jon Jones, has put together a 4-0 professional record since transitioning to MMA last year.
