Conor McGregor said his TKO defeat to Max Holloway at UFC 329 last weekend should be overturned as he awaits an update on his leg injury.
McGregor hurt his right knee in the opening moments of the fight after attempting a jump kick that missed his opponent. McGregor landed awkwardly on his leg, and the referee ended the fight 1:09 into the first round.
In an Instagram post published Wednesday, the 38-year-old said the extent of his injury will be revealed Thursday once he gets the results of a scan. McGregor added that the fight "should be a no-contest and all bets returned."
The fight was ruled a TKO loss for McGregor because he was injured after the fight had already started. He got the same result when he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021, his most recent action in the Octagon before UFC 329.
McGregor has stated that he plans to fight again and Saturday's loss to Holloway won't be the last time we see him in the UFC.
"I am in shock what has taken place," McGregor wrote on X a few hours after the fight. "The devil is literally staring at me right in front of my face here. I am not engaging. I will be at church tomorrow. I will overcome this. I will not be deterred. I will return."
The former two-division champion has one bout remaining on his contract. He has not won a fight since he took down Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at UFC 246 in January 2020.
