All-Star second baseman Ernie Clement believes the Toronto Blue Jays need to do a better job of playing as a team if they want to turn around their season.

"You've got to find a way to win when you're not playing your best, and we're not doing that," said Clement after Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. "I don't know. You play like shit, you don't play as a team, it's really tough to win baseball games.

"So, we've got to start playing for each other and playing a lot better. You can't win baseball games when you play like that."

The Blue Jays have been shut out in back-to-back games, having failed to score a run in 24 innings dating back to the third frame of Friday's 2-0 win in the opener of the Mariners series.

Toronto (42-48) mustered two runs on 10 hits in the three-game set.

"They were really good. We were really bad," Clement said. "So, it's a pretty good combo for a tough weekend. I just think we can be a lot better as a team. ... As an offense, we just have to be better."

The Blue Jays enter Monday's action tied for the sixth-worst wRC+ (92) and slugging percentage (.382) in baseball. The club reached the 2025 World Series, but its sputtering offense this season has Toronto sitting three games back of the AL's final wild-card spot.
