BRONX, NY - JUNE 29: New York Yankees Right Fielder Jasson Dominguez (24) catches a fly ball and collides with New York Yankees Second Baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. (13) during the fourth inning of a Major League Baseball game between the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees on June 29, 2026, at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, NY.

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been placed in concussion protocol after leaving his team's loss to the Detroit Tigers following a collision with teammate Jasson Domínguez.

Chisholm was attempting to catch a pop fly in the fourth inning when Domínguez came running in from right field to make the catch himself. Domínguez held on to the ball for the out, but clotheslined his teammate in the process.

Chisholm was eventually able to walk off the field under his own power after being tended to by trainers. He was replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera.

"Obviously, we're playing the infield in, so it's a little bit in that no-man's land," manager Aaron Boone said postgame, according to Adam Zagoria of NJ.com. "I think JD called it late, I don't know if (Chisholm) didn't hear. I haven't gone there with Jazz yet."

The Yankees didn't offer any further updates on Chisholm's status postgame.

"It was really unfortunate," Domínguez said, per SNY. "... I called it, but obviously I don't call it louder enough. But really unfortunate what happened."

The injury continues a difficult stretch for Chisholm, who's been at the center of a number of bizarre incidents over the last month. The 28-year-old was ejected from Sunday's game in Boston after arguing a called third strike. Last week, he went viral, and briefly drew the ire of his manager, for enjoying a lollipop while on the field - days after publicly stating he won't wear a cup despite fouling a ball off his groin.

But the Yankees can ill afford to lose their All-Star second baseman for an extended period. New York is already without superstar Aaron Judge, slugger Giancarlo Stanton, outfielder Trent Grisham, and star left-hander Max Fried due to injuries. Third baseman Ryan McMahon has also been sidelined by a throat infection during the past week.

The Yankees lost Monday's game to Detroit, 7-3, their fifth straight defeat and ninth in their last 12 games. New York managed just three hits against Tigers starter Casey Mize and two relievers. It's the first time that the storied franchise has been held to three or fewer hits in four consecutive contests, according to YES Network and Talkin' Yanks.
