Alexander Zverev is the new French Open favorite following Jannik Sinner's shocking second-round exit Thursday.
Sinner had been a heavy favorite to win his fifth Grand Slam and first French Open title, closing at -300 without Carlos Alcaraz in the field. He was -25000 to beat Juan Manuel Cerundolo, and his odds shortened to -50000 (99.8% implied win probability) when he was up 5-1 in the third set with a two-set advantage.
But the Paris heat was too much for Sinner to handle. The World No. 1 began to cramp and show signs of physical exhaustion, causing a seemingly insurmountable lead to slip away.
One of the biggest upsets in tennis history has blown the doors wide open for someone to claim their first Grand Slam. Novak Djokovic is the only player remaining in the tournament with a Grand Slam title, and whoever emerges victorious at Roland Garros will end a run of nine Grand Slams won by either Sinner or Alcaraz.
Zverev moved to +190 on theScore Bet after Sinner's loss. The German, who was the runner-up in Paris two years ago, is the 2-seed at this year's tournament. He's also a three-time French Open semifinalist, so oddsmakers clearly respect his chances to win his first Grand Slam on clay.

Djokovic is the second favorite at +350, and he'll meet Zverev in the semifinals if they both make it that far. A fourth career French Open title would be Djokovic's 25th Grand Slam victory of his career, adding to his all-time record.
Casper Ruud is the third favorite at +700 but sits on the same side of the draw as Zverev and Djokovic. Cerundolo (+1400) and American Ben Shelton (+1400) have the shortest odds among players on the other side of the draw, with a path to the final that looks far less daunting than it did Thursday morning.
